Neighbour Simon's Turnip Chuntney
Ingredients
1kg Turnips
450g Apples
450g Onions
15g Turmeric
1 Teaspoon Dry Mustard
1.1Ltr Vinegar
225g Sultanas
225g Soft Brown Sugar
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
55g Salt
Method
Wash the turnips, quarter and cook in boiling water until soft. Drain and mash well. Peel, core and chop the apples and peel and chop the onions. Mix turmeric and mustard with a little of the vinegar. Put all the ingredients into a preserving pan and simmer gently until thick, about 1 hour. Pour into hot sterilized jars and seal. Yields about 2.2kg.
