The story behind Hillview Farms

Hello and welcome to all our customers new and old.

With the massive growth that came about almost 12 months ago now due to Covid, we thought we would re-introduce ourselves and let everyone know how Hillview Farms came to be.

We, Jason and Ashleigh, purchased the beautiful farm Hillview in Batlow 9 years ago. It came with an orchard of 3500 apple trees and 40 chestnut trees on the farm next door, that Jason’s parents purchased 18 months later.

As a family we started this business 5 years ago now and initially we were just growing a little bit of everything and seeing what would grow for our family and friends. We would post on our social pages that we had 50 kilos of chestnuts or 20 kilos of tomatoes that week and they were always snapped up very quickly!

Our first farmers market was at the Friday Forage in Tumut and we were so stoked to sell out of our tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini’s that day and make enough to buy a bottle of champagne and a case of beer!

We were certainly novices though, we left our car boot open all day and discovered we had a flat battery when we were packing up, so had to call Jason’s parents to come and jump start us!

Our first market in Sydney was at Riverside Girls High in Gladesville on a Saturday and it was here that we started to grow and meet some wonderful customers, many who are still shopping online with us today.

Next was Orange Grove in Lilyfield, then Marrickville, Double Bay and Hornsby Markets, and in each we continued to grow our customer base and really enjoyed the atmosphere of working the markets.

We started our online delivery service about 3 years ago while still at the markets, and while we were delivering a steady 3 days a week to many suburbs of Sydney, nothing prepared us for the end of March last year when level 3 restrictions came into affect!

We quickly upped our delivery days to 5, added extra days to certain areas and were lucky to be able to employ many who had been stood down from their industries, and were so glad to have been able to help so many people avoid the supermarkets and stay safe during this time.

We now have our own market every Saturday in our warehouse at 159 Allen Street, Leichhardt from 8am-2pm. It’s undercover so it’s great for those rainy days and its so big there is plenty of room for social distancing.

If you pop in one Saturday make sure to say hi to myself Ashleigh, my partner Jason and our little man Jack who is sure to keep your kids entertained while you shop!

I am always posting specials, farm updates and recipes on our social media so if you haven’t yet followed us please do. Our Facebook and Instagram is @hillviewfarmsaus
